With Christmas just around the corner, we wanted to share details of the BID team’s plans for celebrating this important festive season in the city centre and how you can get involved in this year’s activities.
This year’s lighting programme aims to build upon the success of last year’s illuminations with more extensive displays and beautiful designs. The aim of the enhanced lighting programme is to create a warm welcome for shoppers and visitors alike, and attract more footfall to the city during the darker winter evenings. After the overwhelming positive feedback on the ‘soft launch switch on’ last year, the format for the lighting programme will be the same this year. This means that the lights will be turned on in phases over a period of time, starting with the side streets on 12 November followed by the illumination of the main streets from the 23 November.
Chichester BID has partnered with Festive Illuminations to offer BID Members the opportunity to decorate their shop fronts with real, locally sourced Christmas trees. Each tree comes dressed with beautiful, warm-white low voltage LED fairy lights which will not only add a little Christmas magic to your premises, but the city centre as a whole. Mounted Christmas trees are available to order from the BID at a cost of £85.00 each. To order a Christmas tree for your shop front, please email [email protected]
Festive Elf Trail
Following the success of our Nutcracker-themed Christmas trail last December, we are delighted to announce that this year the city centre will play host to a fantastic new Elf Trail. This family-friendly trail will commence on Saturday 23 November, to coincide with the illuminations and the window display competition, and finish on Wednesday 18 December. The BID Team will be strategically distributing 12 elves, each with an accompanying children’s prize, around the city centre in order to encourage visitors to areas with lighter footfall over the festive period. The trail will be featured in this year’s Festivities Brochure of which we are printing and distributing 15,000 to residents and local visitor attractions. The brochure will also be available to download from the Chichester BID website.
Christmas Window Display Competition
The BID team is inviting all city centre businesses to put their best window forward for a special competition this Christmas. We know that many businesses put a lot of time and effort in to their Christmas displays to maximise the visibility of the shops, so we’re inviting you all to showcase your windows in this festive contest and therefore create an unofficial trail across the city for the public to come and enjoy. All businesses participating will be featured in the BID’s promotional activity including on the BID website and its social media channels.
Judging is due to take place on Saturday 23 November, where windows will be judged based on presentation and creativity. There will also be a People’s Choice winner, voted for by members of the public via social media. For more information please contact [email protected]
Want to take part in our Christmas advent calendar?
We will be running a virtual advent calendar campaign this Christmas, which will feature 12 days of fantastic offers from BID Members between Sunday 1 December – Thursday 12 December. Each day will promote a special offer or act of kindness that is available to the public for one day only. We would love to hear from you if you would like to run a special offer – we only have space for eleven businesses to take part so they will be selected on a first-come, first-serve basis. This is a great opportunity for you to promote your Christmas offering to the public during the biggest selling season of the year. All offers will be promoted on the Chichester BID website and social media channels, which will help raise awareness of your business and services over the festive season.
