Chichester District Council is currently consulting on changes to the Parking Order and increases to parking charges in Chichester and the local area. Though it is an increase across the district, it unfairly impacts visitors to Chichester, since car parks in Midhurst, Petworth and East Wittering all have up to 2 hours free parking.
Chichester BID Chairman, Colin Hicks, was invited to speak at a committee meeting this week to propose other solutions at this crucial time for the future of Chichester City Centre. However, the assembled officers and members of the Chichester District Council rejected calls to trial a more measured parking scheme that could have met current challenges for city businesses by providing visitor incentives designed to increase dwell-times.
A copy of the draft order, together with the Council’s reasons for proposing to make such an order, is available to review at: https://www.chichester.gov.uk/aboutparking#consultation
