City centre businesses have been looking particularly spectacular this year, ready for Chichester BID’s annual Christmas Window Display Competition. With over 30 entries including independents and larger retailers, the competition was judged by Eastenders and All Creatures Great and Small star Christopher Timothy.
Despite a tough year with the pandemic, many businesses still entered into the festive spirit and showcased their Christmas creativity. Categories in the competition were gold, silver and silver gilt as well as judge’s choice for medium/large retailers and independents.
Christopher spent hours looking at photos of all entries to select his winners, he commented: “It was hard to judge the displays as they are all splendid. I needed to look at the photos several times over! Overall, there was a very high standard. Well done to everyone taking part for their ingenuity and making Chichester look that bit more festive this year.”
Winning gold were; Hennings Wine, Winter’s Moon, Timothy Roe, Good News, Gold Arts, Rosie Rose, The Barn Little London, Wagtail Coffee & Yoga, Jane Bulbeck, Giggling Squid, Cherry Vintage and Hedge Rose.
Picking up a silver award were; Susie Watson Designs, Q Hair & Beauty, Closs & Hamblin, Dartagnen Menswear, Café Paradiso, RSPCA Mount Noddy, Lucy With Diamonds, Whirligig, Orvis, Lush, Rymans, Katie Loxton, Alexander Jewellery, Common Grounds, Clothkits, Almhouse Vintage and Grace Hair & Beauty.
Present Surprise, Cancer Research, Proposals and Fat Face all received Silver Gilt awards for their windows.
Christopher particularly liked the traditional displays at Good News in St Martin’s Street, Q Hair & Beauty in North Street and Hedge Rose in The Hornet as well as the clever bow design at Gold Arts in East Street.
The judge’s choice award for the medium/large retailer went to Giggling Squid and to Timothy Roe for independents. The jewellers in South Street was also selected as overall winner of the competition for its eye catching and sparkling display.
The public also got a chance to vote for their favourite using the LoyalFree App and through social media. The winner with the most votes across all platforms was Jane Bulbeck with their 12 Days of Christmas theme.
Oriana Di Mascio, Projects Manager at Chichester BID, commented: “We would like to thank all of our businesses for taking part in the competition and congratulations to everyone. The standard was once again extremely high and choosing an overall winner is never easy.”
