This is the ideal course for beginners and intermediate dressmakers alike. Choose a pattern aimed at your ability, perhaps one that you would not dare tackle on your own which incorporates a number of techniques you would like to learn for example setting in sleeves, darts, welt pockets, a concealed zip . . .

There are so many patterns to choose from nowadays, from the traditional familiar brands such as Vogue to a wide range of independent pattern designers. Choosing the right pattern and material is the first step for a successful make and we know how daunting this can feel, so do pop into our shop for any help and advice, we have lots of amazing patterns and gorgeous fabrics to choose from, but of course, feel free to bring something you already have in your stash.

We will start by looking at your patterns in more depth ie. how to calculate fabric and how to choose your size. Then we will look at the pattern pieces themselves to get to know the markings. The crucial next step is making adjustments to your pattern. Very few of us are standard size, so, depending on the style of the garment you may need to add or take away from the bust, waist or hips. Because everyone will have chosen a different pattern, you will all be working at your own pace. Maria will be on hand at every step to help you create a garment that is a perfect fit and beautifully finished. One that you can wear with pride and say “I made this!”

About your Teacher: 

As well as being an incredible designer, pattern cutter and seamstress, Maria Pulley is also an excellent teacher, whose passion for sewing is infectious.

Skills: Some sewing knowledge is required, but any level is welcomed. Just choose a pattern to match your ability.

Materials: You will need to provide your own pattern, fabric and notions.
