Traditional Lampshade Day Workshop at Clothkits
November 30 @ 10:00 am - 4:30 pm
Join us for the day and learn how to make a traditional tailored lampshade. Using the fabric of your choice you will learn how to make a handsewn soft shade on a bowed empire frame – a classic traditional style of lampshade.
You will make an unlined traditional lampshade using a 10”/25.5cm frame in this one-day workshop, however there will also be a demonstration of how to make and add linings, plus how to make and add different types of trims.
About your Teacher:
Jane Warren of ‘The Lampshade’ Loft is one talented lady, and an excellent tutor. She has many years of making lampshades under her belt.
Materials:
You will need to bring about 50cm of fabric, or larger depending on the print or design you have chosen. Your fabric will be cut on the bias for this shade meaning that shade will be placed at a 45 degree angle – if your fabric has a print this is something to consider when choosing your fabric.
Your chosen fabric should be relatively robust and not too thin as it will need to be heavily stretched, it should also to prevent the light bulb showing through the shade. Try and aim for a cotton/cotton mix, nothing with a loose weave or embellishments. We have lots of lovely trims and fabrics available to buy on the day if you so wish
If you wish to embelish the bottom of your shade you will need 1 metre of trim for the base – pom pom, tassel, braid or anything stretchy. You can alternatively make bias binding from your fabric on the day.
You will also need £12 for the frame and lampshade tape which is paid directly to the tutor on the day.
Class Size:
Maximum class size of 6.
Skills:
Ideal for complete beginners, or for those wanting to try something new.
This workshop costs £120 and can be booked here.
