DESCRIPTION:Discover a vibrant mix of art at The Chi Arts Salon — a pop-up show bringing together six established local artists this December. \nJoin us this December for a vibrant pop-up exhibition showcasing work by six established local artists: Ben Cavanagh\, Chloe Dowsett\, CurlyMark\, Louise Duggan\, Samuel McGann and Wocco. \nHoused in an empty retail space we’ve activated for this pop-up\, The Chi Arts Salon brings together a diverse mix of illustration\, painting\, mixed media and street-art–inspired work. This four-day exhibition celebrates creativity in Chichester and gives the public a chance to discover\, connect with\, and support local artistic talent. \nYour free ticket secures entry to the Private View on 5th December\, 5.30–8.30pm\, where you’ll have the first chance to see the collection\, meet the artists\, and enjoy an inspiring evening with the creative community. \nThis exhibition is supported by Chichester Creative Art Network (CAN) and Chichester City Council\, as part of an ongoing mission to create more space and visibility for local creatives. \nWe can’t wait to welcome you.

SUMMARY:Haroun Hayward: Path through Trees at Pallant House Gallery
DESCRIPTION:This exhibition is Haroun Hayward’s first solo institutional show and showcases a new body of work. \n\n\nRooted in his experience studying the Sussex landscape\, Hayward combines ideas from abstract expressionism\, 90s dance music\, rave culture\, graffiti\, and his mother’s South Asian and West African textiles. His vibrant\, hybrid approach blends rhythm and texture\, using oil stick techniques that echo embroidery. \nThis series of new works was inspired by postwar British art by artists such as Wilhelmina Barns-Graham\, Edward Burra\, Ceri Richards\, Paul Nash and Graham Sutherland in the Gallery’s collection\, and which can be seen in the major exhibition British Landscapes: A Sense of Place\, running concurrently with Path Through Trees. \nDeveloped following a joint residency with Pallant House Gallery and West Dean College\, this show offers a bold\, contemporary response to British landscape painting. \nAlongside the exhibition\, Hayward has worked with the Gallery’s Community Programme to create Gathered in the Landscape\, a large-scale collaborative artwork exploring landscape as a shared experience\, which can be seen in Room 17.

SUMMARY:British Landscapes: A Sense of Place at Pallant House Gallery
DESCRIPTION:This landmark exhibition explores how artists from the 18th to the 20th century have responded to the landscapes of the British Isles. Bringing together works by more than 60 artists\, the exhibition reveals landscape not simply as scenery\, but as a powerful expression of memory\, identity and emotion.  \n\n\nSpanning Romanticism\, Modernism and postwar abstraction\, the exhibition traces a rich lineage from Thomas Gainsborough and the golden age of British watercolour to the postwar works of Wilhelmina Barns-Graham\, Barbara Hepworth\, Paul Nash\, and Eric Ravilious. \nFrom quiet lanes and chalk hills to industrial sites and abstract coastlines\, painters\, printmakers and sculptors have depicted places shaped by labour\, conflict and imagination. British Landscapes: A Sense of Place invites visitors to reflect on how Britain’s landscapes have been lived in\, remembered and reimagined – and how they continue to shape our collective sense of belonging and resilience. \nThis exhibition is accompanied by a new illustrated catalogue written by Director Simon Martin\, with contributions from contemporary artist\, Haroun Hayward\, whose exhibition Haroun Hayward: Path through Trees runs alongside British Landscapes: A Sense of Place.

SUMMARY:Pop Inspired Portraits Workshop at Pallant House Gallery
DESCRIPTION:Explore portraiture through a Pop Art lens with award winning artist Wendy Barratt\, creating bold and expressive works inspired by the Pop and the Figure exhibition at Pallant House Gallery. \n\n\nIn this one-day workshop\, you’ll work directly from a live model\, using drawing techniques to develop striking\, pop-inspired portraits. Through a series of guided exercises\, you’ll explore ways to simplify and exaggerate features\, experimenting with line\, tone\, pattern and composition to create dynamic images. \nIn the afternoon\, you’ll build on these approaches to develop a more resolved piece\, with guidance on working confidently and expressively in drawing. Wendy will share techniques for translating observation into bold\, stylised portraits\, encouraging you to balance accuracy with creative interpretation. \nDuring the day\, you’ll also have the opportunity to visit the exhibition\, exploring how artists associated with Pop Art have reimagined the figure through colour\, pattern and visual language. \nSuitable for all levels\, this workshop offers a supportive and exploratory environment. By the end of the session\, you will have produced a series of studies and a finished pop-inspired portrait to take home. \nTickets cost £120 and can be booked here.
