DESCRIPTION:While The BFG is on stage at Chichester Festival Theatre\, the story spills out into the city from 28 March – 11 April with Chichester BID’s phizz-whizzing BFG Family Trail.\n\nChiddlers are invited to explore the city of Chichester in search of colourful dream jars hiding in eight windows. Each dream jar features a wonderfully splendiferous word – with a letter highlighted. All you need to do is collect the letters from each word and unscramble them to create a new gobblefunk-inspired word to complete the trail.\n\nEntries will be entered into a prize draw to win a £50 CFT Voucher and Roald Dahl goodies.\n\nWhere to start your adventure\nPick up a printed trail map from the CFT Box Office\, participating city centre businesses\, or download a copy here and print one at home to use on your adventure.\n\nHow to crack the code\nOnce you’ve completed the trail and noted all the letters\, unscramble them to make an 8-letter gobblefunk word.\n\nHow to enter\nEnter online at here or drop your printed trail form into the CFT Box Office or take a photo of your completed paper trail and send to office@chichesterbid.co.uk. In fact\, The Guardian described Elmer as an LGBTQ+ hero in 2014. \nHere’s what’s happening at The Novium Museum on Elmer Day 2026: \nPre-Pride drop-in\, 9.30am – 10.30am\nCelebrate Elmer as a LGBTQ+ icon at The Novium Museum before heading off to enjoy Chichester Pride (you’ll need to book tickets for Pride separately\, via the Chichester Pride website). \nWe’re hosting a special pre-Pride parade drop-in event for families\, with face painting (£3 per child). There’s no need to book in advance for this event. \nElmer storytelling sessions\, 10am\, 11am and 12pm\nEnjoy a classic Elmer story in this storytelling session with Chichester Library. \nEntry to the storytelling session of your choice is included in the price of admission to the Elmer and Friends exhibition. \nBook Elmer Day exhibition tickets \nMake your own Elmer puppet\, 10.15am and 11.15am\nGet creative at these family-friendly workshops to make your own Elmer puppet. Experiment with different materials\, colours and patterns to create a puppet that’s as bold and unique as Elmer. \n£3 per child\, £1 per accompanying adult (advance booking essential). DESCRIPTION:Childless toymaker Geppetto buys a piece of wood to make a puppet – little realising the chaos he is about to unleash. The puppet yearns for adventure and runs away\, but instead of excitement only finds glorious attractions containing hidden dangers.  \nHe returns home hoping to be showered with sympathy and learns his tribulations are just beginning. Running away hasn’t worked; lying won’t work; he must become a real boy to achieve the belonging he craves. \nCollodi describes the development from puppet to real boy in the same way that useless green timber is matured into useful well-seasoned wood – a transformation only achieved through trials of water and fire. \nRunning time: 95-minutes (approx.)\, including a 20-minute interval. Recommended for ages 5+ (younger children also welcome). \nTickets can be purchased here.
