SUMMARY:Paper Tapered Drum Lampshade Workshop at Clothkits
DESCRIPTION:Join us to learn how to create a beautiful tapered drum lampshade using hand-marbled paper\, papers from Japan and other exceptional papers. The workshop will be led by Jane Warren from The Lampshade Loft\, who will provide all the necessary supplies and guide you through the process. \nYou’ll have the opportunity to choose from a variety of papers and trims\, and Jane will teach you how to laminate the paper to create a panel and then hand-roll it onto a lampshade ring-set. In addition\, you’ll receive instructions on fixtures and fittings\, as well as guidance on creating different shapes and sizes. By the end of the workshop\, you’ll have the skills to make many more lampshades. \nPlease note that the lampshade you’ll be creating is a tapered/cone shape suitable for a desk or table lamp\, not for a ceiling or pendant fitting. It measures 25cm in diameter at the base ring and 15cm in diameter at the top ring. \nAbout your Teacher: \nJane Warren runs her small business The Lampshade Loft\, and has been teaching lampshade making for over ten years. She recently published her first book called The Complete Guide to Lampshade Making. \nMaterials: The materials for the lampshade will be available on the day. You will have a choice of hand-marbled\, Japanese\, or other decorative papers to choose from. The kit for the lampshade will cost £20\, and this payment should be made in cash to the tutor on the day. \nThe kit includes: \n\na sheet of paper of your choice\na pre-cut laminate panel\na lampshade ring set comprising of a base ring of 25cm and top ring of 15cm\na small roll of double sided tape\na choice of bias bindings to trim and complete the base and top of the lampshade\n\nClass Size: Maximum class size of 6. \n\nSkills: Ideal for complete beginners or those wanting to try something new. \nDuration: Half Day \nThis workshop costs £60 and can be booked here.

DESCRIPTION:Join Alice for a movement exploration that will invite you to take your practice off the familiarity of your mat and open you up to the myriad of ways that our bodies have the potential to move. \nComing from an improvised dance background\, Alice will guide you through movement based tasks that will give you a framework within which you will explore your own individual movement. The aim of this workshop is to give you the confidence in moving freely in your body in a way that feels intuitive and playful. You will discover how somatic practices strengthen the connections between our body and mind and to invite us to lean deeply into the fun and curiosity that comes hand in hand with moving our bodies without boundaries. Pleated to prefection these beauties are a classic from the 1970’s lighting scene\, but are currently enjoying a revival in modern interiors. Jane will guide you through each step and by the end of the session you will be able to go on to make more shades\, either professionally or for your own use. \nAbout your Teacher: \nJane Warren runs her small business The Lampshade Loft\, and has been teaching lampshade making for     over ten years. Her book The Complete Guide to Lampshade Making was published in 2024 (Crowood Press). \nMaterials: \nYou will need a minimum of 35cm of Liberty Lawn (available to purchase at Clothkits) for your shade. \nPlease note your lampshade will be suitable for lamp bases only (not for ceiling/pendants)\, and the completed size will be a small shade – however\, you will learn all the methods to make larger sizes of your choice. \nYou will also need to bring £12 for the special laminate which is paid directly to the tutor on the day. \nClass Size: \nMaximum class size of 6. \n\nSkills: \nIdeal for complete beginners\, or for those wanting to try something new.
