The methods learnt on this course will ensure your lampshade is finished to a high standard\, and you will then be able to go on to make more shades\, either professionally or for your own use. \nAbout your Teacher: \nJane Warren runs her fab business The Lampshade Loft\, and has been teaching\nlampshade making for over ten years. Her book The Complete Guide to Lampshade\nMaking was published in 2024 (Crowood Press). \nMaterials: \nIdeal fabrics for these lampshades are fine\, thin fabrics such as Liberty lawns\, fine silks and cottons\, quilting fabrics or Indian block prints or even saris. Please avoid heavier fabrics\, velvets\, jersey or other stretch fabrics. If you have a large pattern please note it may be lost in the gathers. Please do ask us if you are unsure about your fabric choice. \nYou will need a minimum of 50cm of fabric for your shade\, however we will be joining widths so if you have a larger pattern\, please bring more. Smocking is an embroidery technique that uses small stitches to gather the fabric. DESCRIPTION:If you are already an experienced knitter join us for this fabulous sock knitting course with Knitting Guru Susan Alexander! In the first week\, you will cover casting on in the round over four needles and knitting to the heel flap. During the second session\, you will knit the heel flap and gusset. You may have some homework after these two initial classes. DESCRIPTION:Join our full-day workshop to learn how to make lined and interlined Roman blinds. You will gain the skills to stitch the blinds\, accurately measure your window\, calculate fabric quantities\, understand pattern repeats\, determine rod pocket positions\, cord and fix the blind\, and utilise the necessary hand-sewn stitches to complete the project. \nDuring the workshop\, you will create a 60 x 100cm sample blind that is lined and interlined with dowel pockets and mostly hand-sewn without any visible stitches on the front. The finished blind will be corded and mounted onto a fabric-covered wooden batten\, meeting current safety standards.
