Charlotte will introduce you to the modern visible mending techniques which is an amalgamation of Japanese Boro using sashiko stitching and other traditions\, where running stitch is used to quilt and reinforce garments. Using small running stitches you can be as neat and tidy as you like or completely relaxed and free! \nAbout your Teacher: \nCharlotte from A Nest of Gentle Makers has had a passion for textiles and making since childhood. She is a keen believer in mending and derives great satisfaction from continuing the life of a favourite jumper or cardigan. She is a free spirit (messy) darner so is thrilled with the new interest in visible mending rather than aiming for an invisible repair! \nClass Size: \nMaximum class size of 10. \nSkills: \nThis course is for all abilities. \nMaterials: \nYou will need to bring a pair of jeans or something similar to repair\, and some decorative fabrics to repair with. Charlotte will have small sewing kits and will provide small remnants for you to practice on before you tackle your own project. You will need a small budget on the day for sashiko needles and Japanese fabrics should you wish to use them. DESCRIPTION:Women’s Work (2025\, 60 mins) is a new documentary directed by Nicola Black\, about internationally acclaimed artist Caroline Walker. \nThe hour-long film follows Walker over the past 5 years\, creating work around themes of childcare and nurture in relation to women’s work\, subjects that are central to her current exhibition at Pallant House Gallery\, Caroline Walker: Mothering. \nWalker’s work explores the diverse social\, economic and cultural experiences of women living in contemporary society. From midwives to care workers\, from chambermaids to migrant workers\, Walker paints the unseen\, often underpaid work of women everywhere. \nThis screening is followed by a Q&A with Caroline Walker and Chief Curator\, Melanie Vandenbrouck. \nCaroline Walker Mothering is organised by The Hepworth Wakefield in collaboration with Pallant House Gallery.  \nThis film screening and Q&A is part of our January Late event series.
