This week is Dementia Action Week (17 – 23 May). Chichester’s Member of Parliament Gillian Keegan MP is working together with The Alzheimer’s Society to help make Chichester District more dementia friendly and we are right behind her.
There are 1,293 people living with a diagnosis of dementia in Chichester. Two-thirds of people with a diagnosis of dementia still live in and want to remain living in their local community for as long as possible but to do that they need a little help.
Here are three simple steps you can take to become more dementia friendly:
Step 1
Join the Dementia Friends programme by visiting: www.dementiafriends.org.uk
Step 2
Actively support your city to become more dementia friendly, send an email to register your support: [email protected] at Chichester Dementia Friendly Community
Step 3
Create a dementia inclusive environment. The Alzheimer’s Society have created some fantastic industry specific guidance to help you:
- Dementia-friendly business guide
- Dementia-friendly retail guide
- Dementia-friendly arts guide
- Dementia-friendly heritage guide
- Dementia – friendly tourism guide
- Dementia-friendly screenings: a guide for cinemas
- Dementia-friendly financial services
- Dementia-friendly legal services and solicitors
Completing these three steps will link your business to the local Dementia Friendly Community Group and establish you as a Dementia Friendly organisation. You will also receive a window sticker to display and access to the digital Dementia Friendly Community logo for your websites.
Together we can create a dementia friendly community to support all local residents and visitors to have a safe and enjoyable visit to Chichester city centre.
As ever, please let us know if we can do anything further to support you and your business with this initiative.
We can’t wait to see lots of Dementia Friendly stickers going up in the windows of our fabulous city centre businesses.
