Celebrating 950 years of community with Chichester Cathedral

| March 2025

A city nestled between stunning coastline and beautiful countryside, Chichester is an incredible and unique place to live. Steeped in a rich and varied history, for 950 years Chichester Cathedral has held a vital place at the heart of our fascinating city.

For centuries the Cathedral has been an important cornerstone of religion in our local area. However, its influence has come to transcend Christianity with a commitment to providing a safe and welcoming space for all, regardless of religion or background. The Cathedral’s longevity is testament to its evolution and place in the city. Over recent years it has established itself as a modern-day community hub, with a varied and inclusive programme including family friendly activities, open air theatre, art exhibitions and talks, held within its ancient walls.

In addition to the Cathedral’s itinerary of events, people from all walks of life use the space as a quiet place to remember and reflect. With special services supporting Chichester Pride as well as St Wilfrid’s Hospice, dedicated to celebrating and remembering loved ones. This inclusive approach to the people of Chichester has helped the Cathedral to remain at the centre of the city’s vibrant community and retain its relevance in an ever-changing world.

Something for everyone to enjoy

Chichester Cathedral’s 950th celebrations include a diverse programme of events for all ages to enjoy, from working with schools across East and West Sussex to concerts, family events and community gatherings.
