Hoot on the Green – A Fun-Packed Family Day in Chichester

Looking for a fun and free family day out this summer? Look no further than ‘Hoot on the Green’! An owl-themed day packed full of activities, crafts and games, it takes place on Saturday 17th August from 11am – 3pm on the Cathedral Green. Organised by Chichester BID, the event promises to be a great day for all ages.

More Than Just a Day Out

‘Hoot on the Green’ is part of The Big Hoot Art Trail, Chichester’s first large-scale outdoor trail organised by Chestnut Tree House and Wild In Art.

From 10th July – 1st September 2024, 30 big owl sculptures will be swooping into spaces around Chichester and Arundel, with many here in the city centre. These will be joined by smaller owl sculptures that will be nestled in shop windows, and for one day only, The Little Hoot Hunt will encourage participants to discover these owls and be in with the chance of winning a bumper prize and free owl cookie with every completed Hunt!

The Big Hoot Art Trail and The Little Hoot Hunt offer a unique and fun way to explore the area, making them a perfect activity for families.

Hoot on the Green – Event Highlights

Hands-On Science

RSPB Pagham and Chichester Forest School will be running owl pellet dissection sessions so young animal enthusiasts can discover more about owls and what they eat. It might sound a bit messy, but children will be amazed by what they see inside an owl pellet – from tiny bones to bits of fur!

Ideally for children aged 5+

The Peregrine Group will also be at the green to tell us more about Chichester Cathedral’s very own nesting Peregrine Falcons.

Owl-Themed Games and Crafts

Get your creative juices flowing at Hoot on the Green with a variety of owl-themed children’s crafts provided by Jam Café. Whether your children are passionate about craft or just looking to have some fun, there’s something for everyone.

Magic and Face Painting

Watch in awe as magician Nick Clark performs mesmerising tricks and illusions. Plus, don’t miss the face painting station, where kids can transform into their favourite animals or characters.

Outdoor Games and Activities

The Rotary Club will be hosting a range of outdoor games that are sure to keep both kids and adults entertained. Meanwhile, Everyone Active will be running interactive sporting activities.

Join the Fun

In addition to the fun packed activities above, we are delighted that some of Chichester’s other independent local businesses will be joining us for the day! Mark your calendar for Saturday 17th August and head to the Cathedral Green for a hoot-tastic day filled with owl-themed fun. It’s a wonderful opportunity to enjoy a free, family-friendly event while exploring the beautiful city of Chichester.
