More than…Celebrations

| July 2026

Some of life’s most memorable moments begin on Chichester’s high street.

An engagement ring carefully chosen after weeks of planning. Flowers delivered to mark a special birthday. A thoughtful gift that says exactly the right thing. Cocktails shared with friends after good news. A family meal that becomes an annual tradition.

These are the moments that stay with us.

That’s why so many of Chichester’s independent businesses are about far more than the products they sell. They become part of the stories people tell for years to come.

Throughout July, our More Than… campaign is celebrating the people and businesses helping create those memories every day.

Marking life’s biggest milestones

For almost 30 years, Timothy Roe Fine Jewellery (pictured right) on South Street has been quietly woven into the lives of Chichester families.

This year marks the jeweller’s 30th anniversary, a milestone that reflects not only exceptional craftsmanship but generations of trust. From bespoke engagement rings and wedding bands to anniversary gifts and treasured family heirlooms lovingly remodelled for a new generation, every piece tells a story that’s uniquely personal.

On East Street, Alexander Jewellery continues that tradition, offering customers the opportunity to create something completely individual through expert guidance, craftsmanship and personal service that simply can’t be found online.

Just around the corner, Flower Chichester describes itself perfectly as “more than a florist – a memory maker.” Every bouquet becomes part of a wedding, celebration, thank you or farewell, reminding us that flowers often say the things words cannot.

Thoughtful gifts with meaning

Finding the perfect gift isn’t always about a bespoke creation.

At Winter’s Moon on North Street, every carefully chosen product reflects owner Julia Grant’s passion for helping customers celebrate the moments that matter. The shop has become known for its beautiful window displays, thoughtful homeware and gifts that people are genuinely excited to give.

Similarly, Elizabeth Miles (picture right) on West Street combines handcrafted jewellery with carefully curated homeware sourced directly from independent makers. Every shelf has been thoughtfully considered, making it somewhere customers can discover gifts that feel personal rather than predictable.

Together, businesses like these remind us that shopping independently often means discovering something made with care, chosen with purpose and given with love.

The backdrop to great nights out

Some of Chichester’s best memories happen after the shops have closed.

Last month, Rocking Horse (pictured left) on South Street was named Best Bar in Sussex at the Muddy Stilettos Awards 2026, recognising a business that has become one of the city’s favourite places to celebrate, catch up with friends and enjoy an expertly crafted cocktail.

Over at Little London, Havana is creating a different kind of experience. More than a bar, manager Toby has developed a Community Interest Company that gives local musicians the opportunity to perform live, helping new talent find an audience while creating memorable nights out in Chichester’s city centre.

Meanwhile, Phoenix Dining continues to evolve as a family-run business. Alongside its restaurant on Guildhall Street, its popular street food kitchen at The Ghost at the Feast on North Street introduces its food to a whole new audience, showing how independent businesses continue to innovate while staying true to their roots.

Together, these businesses demonstrate that Chichester’s independent hospitality scene is about far more than food and drink. They’re places where birthdays are celebrated, live music is discovered, conversations continue long into the evening and memories are made.

More Than…

Whether it’s choosing an engagement ring, finding the perfect gift, celebrating with friends or discovering your new favourite place for an evening out, Chichester’s independent businesses become part of life’s most important moments.

The businesses featured here are just a small selection of the more than 300 independent businesses that help make Chichester city centre such a special place to visit.

Throughout July, we will continue sharing these More Than… stories, celebrating the people, passion and experiences behind the city’s proudly independent businesses and inviting you to discover just how much more they have to offer.
