This Easter, families are invited to follow a trail of dreams through Chichester city centre.
From 28 March to 11 April 2026, colourful dream jars inspired by Roald Dahl’s The BFG will appear in shop windows across the city, transforming a visit to Chichester into a playful family adventure.
Created by Chichester BID in collaboration with Chichester Festival Theatre and city centre businesses, the free BFG Family Trail celebrates storytelling, reading and exploration while The BFG is delighting audiences on stage at Chichester Festival Theatre until 11 April.

How the trail works
Across Chichester city centre you’ll find eight giant dream jars hidden in the windows and sometimes inside the store itself of eight book loving businesses:
- Chichester Books, South Street
- The Sussex Bookshop, South Street (please look for the jar inside when the store is open)
- Waterstones, West Street
- Oxfam Bookshop, East Street
- Between the Lines, North Street
- Comics, Games & Coffee, North Street
- Winter’s Moon, North Street
- Chichester Library, Tower Street
Each jar features one of Roald Dahl’s wonderfully inventive “gobblefunk” words with a letter in each word highlighted.
As you explore the city and discover each dream jar:
- Write down the highlighted letter on your trail map
- Collect all the letters along the route
- Unscramble them to reveal the final mystery word*
*A hint: It sounds like a person who likes reading and goes fast!
Once you’ve solved the anagram, you’ll have completed the trail!
