We are delighted to share details of how our city is celebrating the arrival of Peter Walker Sculptor’s Peace Doves installation at Chichester Cathedral this autumn. From creative window displays by our fantastic local businesses to enchanting evening viewings, family-friendly activities, and an exciting photographic competition, there’s something for everyone to get involved in and enjoy.
Peace Doves Window Competition
Our beloved Chichester businesses have come together to create stunning window displays inspired by the theme of Peace Doves. It’s a showcase of artistic talent, creativity, and unity within our beautiful city. We’re proud to announce the businesses participating are:

The judging panel, featuring Helen Marshall, CEO and Chair of Chichester BID, alongside Chichester Cathedral’s Interim Dean, The Reverend Canon Simon Holland, will be judging the displays on Thursday 5 October. Their mission? To find displays that brilliantly capture the spirit of Peace Doves with exceptional creativity and thoughtfulness.
The winning business will be in for a treat! They’ll receive tickets for their team to attend one of Chichester Cathedral’s special Peace Doves evening viewings on Friday 28 October, Thursday 2 November, Friday 3 November, or Thursday 9 November. Plus, there’s a £50 Chichester Gift Card in the mix, which can be used at one of Chichester’s finest restaurants or bars. It’s the perfect recipe for a memorable team outing!
Peace Doves at Chichester Cathedral
The captivating Peace Doves exhibition at Chichester Cathedral opens on Saturday 30 September. Featuring thousands of paper doves suspended from the Cathedral’s Nave, each one bears messages of hope and peace contributed by local businesses, schools, community groups, and individuals from near and far.
When: The exhibition is running from 30 September – 15 October and then from 21 October – 12 November. You can visit during the day to witness the doves. Admission is by donation, making it accessible to all who wish to experience the beauty of Peter Walker’s Peace Doves.
Exclusive Evening Viewings: For an extra special experience, don’t miss the ticketed evening viewings on select dates — Friday 28 October, Thursday 2 November, Friday 3 November, and Thursday 9 November. During these evenings the doves will be illuminated in mesmerising colours, promising a truly enchanting atmosphere as you immerse yourself in the world of peace and creativity.
Peace Doves for Families
This October, families can also enjoy special events and experiences at Chichester Cathedral inspired by Peter Walker’s Peace Doves installation.
Weekly storytelling sessions will take place under the doves at 10am on Monday 2, 9, 23 and 30 October, and 6 and 11 November (perfect for the under 5s). Join the Children’s Art Workshop on Saturday 21 October, from 11am to 2pm. Participants will have the chance to learn collage techniques and craft their own peace doves artwork. Additionally, families are invited to join in with The Big Draw under the doves on Friday 27 October at 11am. It’s a fantastic opportunity for creative minds of all ages to get involved.
We are also teaming up with the Cathedral to offer families a thrilling bird-themed trail in the city centre from 20 – 29 October. Points can be collected as families explore this city, with activities being hosted in the library and the bird quest concluding at the Cathedral. If enough points are gathered along the way, a prize will be awarded to participants. Watch this space and follow our social media channels for more on this exciting half term trail!
#PeaceDovesChichester Photo Competition
Chichester Cathedral is running a Peace Doves photo competition throughout the exhibition period. Everyone is invited to get involved and share their experience of Peace Doves through the images and/or video they capture.
How to Enter:
– Capture: Take a photo or video of the Peace Doves installation.
– Share: Post on social media platforms using the hashtag: #PeaceDovesChichester and tagging in the Cathedral.
– Win: Four winners will selected during the the exhibition period.
– Prizes: The winners will receive a Chichester Cathedral goodie bag, which includes a special tote bag, a Cathedral guidebook, a Peace Doves badge and a 10 x 8 inch frame kindly gifted by Whitbys Photo Imaging
