The Canopy on Crane Street is a vibrant outdoor performance space in the heart of the city centre. A flexible, open-air space designed to showcase live music, spoken word, theatre, community performance and more – during the summer months it transforms one of Chichester’s most characterful side streets into a dynamic cultural hub.

Created to animate the high street and champion local talent, The Canopy offers a fresh way to experience the city’s Northern Quarter. Running from June – September, the free pop-up performance area provides a welcoming space where creativity can flourish alongside independent shops, cafés and businesses on Crane Street.

The project received part-funding from the UK government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. It has been led by Chichester BID, who also secured funding from Chichester City Council and a private landlord on Crane Street.

What’s on at The Canopy on Crane Street 

6 June: The Walk of the Dandelion

To launch Green Week, The Canopy on Crane Street will be one of the stops on The Walk of the Dandelion, with free storytelling, family planting and crafting. The walk will start from Chichester Festival Theatre and include stops at Pallant House Gallery, Crane Street and ending at the Cathedral Green where the Festival of Flowers will be taking place.

5 July, 11am – 3pm: Summer Street Party 

Chichester District Council’s Summer Street Party will return to Chichester city centre, with a day full of family-friendly activities, entertainment, and an array of local food vendors, plus a mixed street market celebrating local designers, makers and creatives. The festivities continue at The Canopy on Crane Street where there will be live music and performances, led by Dawn Gracie of Dawn’s Vintage Do.

1 August, 11am – 3pm: Creative Beatz Takeover

Creative Beatz will be taking over The Canopy on Crane Street with live music and kids crafts. More details coming soon…
