Christmas Lights

The spectacular Christmas light displays will be back again this year and will be switched on in phases from mid-November.  

Christmas lights in numbers:

3.4 miles of lights put up each year
10 people to put up and take down the lights
16 streets across the city decorated
900,000 LED lights shining brightly around our city

Christmas Window Display Competition

The BID team is inviting all city centre businesses to put their best window forward for another special Christmas Window Display Competition.

The festive windows will be in place by Saturday 5 December. All entries will be awarded a silver, silver gilt or gold certificate for their displays. 

People’s Choice Award

This is an opportunity for the public to take part and vote for their favourite Christmas Window Display. To cast a vote, we ask for the following:

Take a photo of your favourite festive shop window out of all entries and post it on a social media platform using the hashtag #ChiBidXmas between the 5 – 21 Dec 2020 or vote online via the LoyalFree App.

The window display with the most votes will be announced as winner of the People’s Choice category.

Fairy Tale Trail

Following the success of our Nutcracker and Elf-themed Christmas trails, we are delighted to announce that this year the city centre will play host to a fantastic new Fairy Tale Trail.

Families are invited to take part in this free trail to find 12 traditional fairy tale books and guess the stories in order to enter a competition to be in with a chance of winning a £150 Chichester Gift Card and Christmas Birdham Bear book.

The trail will run from Saturday 5 December until 11am on 24 December, and can be found on the LoyalFree App or within the Festivities leaflet which can be downloaded or picked up in the city centre.

Late Night Shopping

We are encouraging businesses to come together for a dedicated Late Night Shopping Evening on Thursday 3 December to provide a fabulous festive shopping experience for customers looking to support local this Christmas.

Make a pledge this Christmas to shop local! Now more than ever your high street needs your support, by shopping local you will be helping your economy and might just re-discover the thrill and excitement of finding perfect and unique gifts whilst enjoying the festive atmosphere of the city.

Chichester Gift Card

A great gift idea and another way you can support local this Christmas is by purchasing a Chichester Gift Card. Currently over 140 businesses in the city centre accept the cards from shops and salons to eateries and more.

Council’s Christmas Campaign

Chichester District Council, its partners and the Observer Series, are joining forces to support local businesses by launching another special Christmas campaign for 2020.

The Countdown to Christmas campaign encourages people to  support local businesses offering a selection of unique and beautiful gifts.

Businesses and shoppers are being encouraged to post pictures of their gifts and local services with the hashtag: #LoveFromChichester

Christmas Parking

The council will not be running the free Christmas Park and Ride service from Chichester College due to the coronavirus pandemic.

However, the following parking incentives will apply throughout December:

  • Free parking in the Avenue de Chartres car park each weekend throughout December
  • When using the MiPermit app, receive a free hour of parking when choosing two hours within any car park in the district (except Westgate Leisure Centre and Avenue de Chartres) throughout December.

Christmas Events

The Chichester community is still coming together to provide plenty of festive entertainment, fun and activities throughout December.
Events include; Christmas lights at the canal, festive plays, prayer and carol services, visits to and from Father Christmas, treats from the Farmers’ Market and Christmas crafting. Plus so much more!
