Merry & Bright

Christmas in the City

This festive season the city will be joining forces to ensure this Christmas is one to remember. Following the struggles of the past couple of years, our wonderful local businesses, councils, partners and of course the hardworking team here at Chichester BID have come up with a festive programme to help light up the city this Christmas.

From free parking and atmospheric Late Night Shopping to charity collaborations, a fun Christmas trail and of course our popular Window Competition. Times have been hard, but with a little local love and festive cheer we believe that this Christmas will shine brighter than ever.

Christmas Lights

The magical Christmas light displays will be back once more and the official switch-on of the Christmas Tree at The Cross takes place on Saturday 27 November with activities led by The Rotary Clubs of Chichester.

  • 4.45pm – Oakwood School Choir at The Cross
  • 4.45pm – The Chichester Festival of Light Lantern Parade will meet outside Café Nero in East Street
  • 5.30pm – Light Switch on and carols with Chichester City Band.

This year we are inviting people to nominate a member of their local community who has ‘lit up their lives’ in the past year to turn on this year’s Christmas Tree Lights. Find out more here.

Twilight Shopping

This year’s Twilight Shopping will be taking place on 2, 9, 16 and 23 December between 4-7pm.

The evenings will channel Chichester’s wonderful Christmas spirit with lots of shops and businesses staying open late, fun street entertainment, live music including local school choir performances as well as some festive foodie treats and drinks. On 23rd December we will also be welcoming a very special guest as Father Christmas will be joining us at The Cross!

In addition, there will be free parking from 4pm in the Avenue De Chartres car park.

Come and join in the festivities and do your Christmas shopping in style this year!

Festive Family Fun

To make this Christmas truly special, we have planned lots of family-focused activities and entertainment for the Saturdays throughout December and the week before Christmas during the school holidays.

With music, storytelling, face painting and kids entertainment, we are also working with Chichester Festival Theatre to create a fabulous themed day on the 11 December. Our events programme will be available soon.

Stick Man Family Trail

Stick Man’s lost! Can you find Stick Man around the city centre in this year’s free Christmas Family Trail?

To celebrate the arrival of Stick Man Live at Chichester Festival Theatre this December, we invite you to search the streets of Chichester to discover 10 photos from this wonderful show.

Running from Saturday 27 November – Saturday 18 December 2021, simply find all 10 Stick Man Live photos hiding in shop windows and scan the QR codes using the LoyalFree App to be entered into a prize draw to win a family ticket to see Stick Man on Thursday 23 December at 4pm.

The touching and funny adaptation of Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s Stick Man drops into Chichester Festival Theatre from 10 – 24 December. Visit cft.org.uk/stick-man for full details.

The Theatre will be bringing more fun and magic into the city centre on Saturday 11 December. Come along to enjoy show songs, dance performances, storytelling, giveaways and much more.

Window Display Competition

This year our local businesses are set to go all out with their festive creations in a bid to be crowned best window display.

The windows will be judged by Simon Higlett, the award-winning set designer for Chichester Festival Theatre’s Christmas production of Pinocchio. There will also be a People’s Choice prize so be sure to come and take a look and vote using the LoyalFree App!

Free Parking!

We are delighted to announce that Chichester District Council will be offering some free and discounted parking during December. This includes:

My Sisters’ House

This Christmas we are proud to be supporting My Sisters’ House. A local charity that supports women across West Sussex in difficulty or crisis.

From 13-15 December the charity will be holding their Chichester Gifting Event – three days of giving out gifts to the children of families in need, donated by local people. New toys and games are being collected at the charity’s headquarters in Bognor Regis or gifts can be donated via their Amazon Wishlist.
