This December, Chichester invites everyone to step into a world of light and colour as the Cathedral’s historic Bell Tower is transformed into a glowing canvas of creativity with Let It Glow: Chichester’s Magical Winter Illumination – the most spectacular Christmas experience ever to take place in the city centre.
Running each evening from Monday 8 to Sunday 21 December, this free immersive light and sound experience will turn the historic Cathedral Green into a dazzling celebration of art, technology, and community.
Created by MakeAmplify, an award-winning collective of artists and technologists, and presented by Chichester BID, Chichester City Council and Chichester District Council, the project is part-funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF).
Generously sponsored by Mayo Wynne Baxter, the event promises to be an unforgettable festive spectacle.
An inclusive, hands-on experience for all ages
Let It Glow invites everyone to be part of the magic. Under a weatherproof marquee on the Cathedral Green, visitors of all ages can use iPads to play with light and colour, watching their creations come to life on the ancient walls in front of them. Every visit offers a new burst of creativity, colour, and wonder.
Each design becomes part of a living artwork, ensuring no two evenings are ever the same. Beyond the marquee, glowing interactive installations invite families to explore, play, and share in the spirit of Christmas together.
A new festive attraction for the city centre
Let It Glow is expected to attract visitors from across the region – shining a light on Chichester’s vibrant city centre and encouraging visitors to stay longer, shop locally, and enjoy the city’s warm hospitality.
Natasha McLeod, CEO of Chichester BID, said: “We’re thrilled to bring this incredible experience to Chichester for the very first time. Let It Glow isn’t just something to watch – it’s something to take part in. It’s inclusive, creative, and full of wonder, and we hope it will draw visitors from near and far to experience the beauty of our city at Christmas while supporting local businesses.”
Collaboration and community spirit
Let It Glow is a shining example of collaboration within Chichester’s ancient walls. Chichester Cathedral, celebrating its 950th anniversary this year, is kindly hosting the spectacle on the Cathedral Green.
Helen Marshall, Chair of Chichester BID, said: “We’re deeply grateful to our partners Chichester City Council and Chichester District Council, and to our sponsor Mayo Wynne Baxter, for helping us bring this extraordinary experience to life – and to Chichester Cathedral for generously hosting it on the Green. Their support has enabled us to create something truly special for residents and visitors alike.”
Let It Glow: Chichester’s Magical Winter Illumination runs from 8 – 21 December from 5.00pm – 7.00pm on weekdays and from 4.30pm – 7.30pm on weekends. It is a completely free experience.
Other highlights this Christmas include the Light Up Chichester Lights Switch On and After Party on Saturday 22 November as well as the popular Festive Family Day on Saturday 13 December, and a host of other seasonal family events and activities across the city.
